Jose Mourinho takes swipe at ex-Chelsea defender Graeme Le Saux over terrorism fears
It’s safe to say Jose Mourinho has made a fair few enemies during his time in management but the Chelsea’s boss’ latest target is a rather surprising one.
Ahead of the the side’s Champions League clash with Maccabi Tel Aviv on Tuesday, with the Home Office warning there is a ‘high threat’ of terrorism, Mourinho took a swipe at ex-Blues defender Graeme Le Saux.
Le Saux was one of the six players who refused to travel Chelsea the last time they played in Israel for a UEFA Cup tie back in 2001 in the wake of 9/11.
The Portuguese boss said: ‘I think the best way is to focus on football and the happiness you have to play football, the responsibility you have to play football.
‘Leave security questions to people who know more than we do, and people who can do things we can’t do.
‘We just focus on playing. I didn’t have a single problem within the squad. I didn’t have a Graeme le Saux.
I had everybody without fears, just wanting to come. I had even a player who, maybe, whose wife is going to have a baby either tomorrow or the next day but he’s here, focusing on what he can do for us.
‘So we’re here focusing on getting a result. We need that for our happiness, our pride, and the people who support us.’
Mourinho’s singling out of Le Saux may have something to do with the former England international saying he risked sending football back 30 years as a result of his treatment of club doctor Eva Carneiro.
