Meghan Trainor, Charlie Puth and that steamy AMAs kiss

It was the make-out session heard 'round the Web: At the end of their performance of Charlie Puth's song "Marvin Gaye," Puth and Meghan Trainor locked lips in what might be the most talked-about awards show kiss since Madonna smooched Britney Spears onstage during the 2003 Video Music Awards.

It wasn't that Puth and Trainor had never kissed — an outtake of just such a kiss made the rounds on the Internet back in August after the release of Puth's video for "Marvin Gaye." What made the kiss so memorable was its passion — and its duration.

Midway through the kiss, Puth grabbed Trainor's rear end, which was clad in a painted-on glittery silver sheath dress. Trainor responded by placing her hands on his jaws like a starlet in a 1950s romance (not so 1950s were the glimpses of tongue).

Directly after the kiss, Luke Bryan won the AMA honor for favorite male country artist. Not quite knowing how to follow the love birds' act, Bryan quipped, "I'm still laughing at that Charlie and Meghan getting it on with a little smooch. It kept rolling after the commercial break.

Reactions on Twitter also kept rolling after the commercial break, with Ellen DeGeneres writing, "I had to cover the dog's eyes."

The kiss apparently caught the attention of Nick Jonas, who was seen talking to Trainor after her performance. That aside, Trainor did not draw the same big audience when it came to the fan-voted award for favorite female pop rock artist. That honor went to Ariana Grande
